We have received several reports from clients who upgraded to Windows 11 and are experiencing problems with their fiber laser machines running EZCad.

What is happening?

Recent Windows 11 updates (combined with Windows Defender) are automatically identifying certain EZCad configuration files (.sys and other parameter files) as potential threats. Windows then silently deletes or quarantines these files without warning.

Common symptoms include:

EZCad suddenly running in Demo Mode
All saved settings, parameters, and configurations disappearing
Desktop shortcut becoming corrupted (changes don’t save when closing the program)

This issue appears to be getting more common as Windows 11 continues to tighten security.

Recommended Solution

Create a Backup – Make a complete backup of your entire EZCad folder.

Better Installation Method
Create a new folder: C:EZCAD. Copy all EZCad files into this new folder
Create a new desktop shortcut pointing directly to EZCAD.exe in the new location
Run EZCad from this new shortcut

Add Windows Defender Exclusion (Important)
Add the entire EZCad folder to Windows Defender exclusions so it stops deleting your configuration files.

Regular Backups
We strongly recommend keeping a zipped backup (ZIP or RAR) of your working EZCad folder on an external drive or cloud storage.

Important Note
Even with these steps, future Windows updates may trigger the same behaviour again. Always keep a recent backup of your EZCad folder.

Additional info from Microsoft :

Disable Memory Integrity
Windows 11's core isolation feature prevents unsigned drivers from loading on start. Disabling it temporarily solves the "failed to open LMC driver" issue.
Press the Windows Key and type Windows Security.
Open the app and click on Device Security in the left sidebar.
Under the Core isolation section, click on Core isolation details.
Locate the Memory Integrity toggle and switch it to Off.
Restart your PC for the changes to apply, then reopen EZCad.
