When working with laser equipment, compliance isn’t optional  – it’s a legal and common-sense necessity.

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) requires that certain types of laser equipment be licensed for import, sale, and use. As a user, you are also responsible for ensuring the safe use of your machine in line with SAHPRA regulations.

We strongly recommend reviewing the official SAHPRA guideline:
“Requirements for the Safe Use of Class 3B and Class 4 Lasers or Laser Systems.”
You can download it here:

Additionally, SAHPRA mandates the display of specific safety signage at the laser’s installation site. You can download our ready-to-print A4 safety signs here:

Why Laser Safety Matters

Operating laser equipment responsibly is critical. Although lasers are inherently safe when used correctly, accidents typically result from negligence or poor training.

Protecting your team and your investment starts with enforcing safety practices:

  • Create a pre-operation checklist that must be completed every time the machine is used.

  • Never allow shortcuts – saving a few seconds is never worth risking an injury.

  • Prioritise operator training to ensure your machine remains safe, productive, and profitable.

Essential Laser Safety Tips

Wear the correct wavelength Laser Safety Goggles
Laser goggles are specially designed to block or attenuate the specific wavelengths your laser operates at (CO2 or Fiber). Even if the laser beam is invisible, it can still cause permanent eye damage. Always wear properly rated laser safety eyewear when operating or near a laser system.

Wear Appropriate Clothing
Avoid loose clothing that could get caught in moving parts or accidentally enter the laser beam path. Loose fabric can ignite quickly and cause serious injury or damage.

At Perfect Laser Technologies, we are committed to helping you operate safely, legally, and with confidence.

Stay compliant. Stay safe. Stay profitable.
